Government Opens Screen Scraping Consultation

Treasury has released a consultation on screen scraping. This follows a speech given by the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services, the Hon. Stephen Jones MP, at the Intersekt conference in Melbourne last week.   

The consultation paper discusses screen scaping in the context of to responsible lending obligations on pages 8-9.

The Minister also indicated in his speech that:

Having CDR available in non-bank lending may make it quicker and easier for BNPL providers to make the checks that will be necessary to comply with the new, scalable responsible lending obligations that we have proposed for their industry.

The consultation paper also refers to various other reforms, reviews and other government measures related to the screen scraping market including:

  • Privacy Act Review
  • Combating scams
  • Cyber Security Strategy
  • Digital ID
  • Future consultation on mandating the ePayments Code
